Shubhra Chatterji, also @historywali on Instagram is a food-documentarian, writer, and director, who has traveled around India for the last 13 years to document its culture, history, and in particular, culinary heritage. She has created television shows like Chakh Le India - Kachcha Raasta on NDTV Good Times and Lost Recipes on Epic Channel; and directed shows like Ekaant, Indipedia, and Rainbow Rishta on Prime Video India, amongst others. She is also the face of what was a popular Instagram LIVE series called History On A Plate, that sought to explore family histories around food.
Shubhra is drawn to documenting the lesser-known food cultures and cuisines of India, and is currently working on a series which showcases the food culture of the Indian Himalayas.
Shubhra has been behind a number of culinary conferences focusing on Indian Food, such as Desi Cultures on the fermented foods of India; and The Food of The Mughals, The Nawab’s Table, and The Mahua Trail.
Shubhra is also the co-founder of Tons Valley Shop www.tonsvalley.shop, an online marketplace that is the face of a social enterprise that aims to enable and empower the small-scale farmers of the upper Tons Valley in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand
